I've only bought nopalitos canned... I think I made an omelette with it and it was really good. Never tried to do it the hard way!

I am not a good mother.
Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!

Okay, I'll be nice. Enjoy your bread! (And PS: this post will probably help Maggie who is learning right now.)

1. I'm thinking that it sounds hard enough for me to scrub off the prickles whereof you speak. But I'm wondering how you did it. Tongs in your left arm, on the counter? Scrubbie in your right hand? Did you have to scrub them on the counter or in the sink? In the sink sounds like it would be hard on your back.

2. Can you eat them raw? I thought I remembered prickly pear from the CornFest one year. Maybe it was the fruit, though, and not the pads.

3. I'm sorry it's blechy. Think of it this way -- when the govt-induced crash comes, you'll know how to get calories (icky-tasting though they be) in weird places. This is just warm-up and practice and storing-away-of-information.

4. Find yourself a Hispanic mommy at the playground and see if you can ask her how to make nopalitos in a less unappetizing way.

I'm right there with you, having had much the same experiences you have. BFing was NOT portable for me, as my kid, until she was 10 months old, would not nurse anywhere except in her bedroom in her rocker. After she was 8 wks old, I couldn't nurse in front of TV or on my living room couch. Traveling was a nightmare because she wouldn't nurse sitting in the car. What's more, she wouldn't go more than 2 hrs or so btwn feedings until she was 9-10 months old. For the better part of a year, we went almost nowhere. Sundays were pure living nightmares.

I wish I'd known the extent of what you were dealing with at the time, cus I've been there, done that, got the tee-shirt (soaked with leaking milk, of course, because the kid is throwing a temper tantrum because my milk isn't letting down fast enough.... ) :-\

Email me ANYTIME. My kid = your kid, I suspect. My addy is in my Goggle profile.

*hugs* from a good friend of your mom's. :)

She wouldn't do bottles either, most of the time it was even worse with bottles. She just hated eating until she started eating grownup food.

Obviously I haven't had kids yet so I haven't had this experience...but I have worked with lots of moms on breastfeeding and can tell you that you definitely aren't the only one! Of course, the babies we keep for months are mostly preemies but even some that would guzzle down a bottle had frustrating times breastfeeding...
We'll see how it goes when I have kids...breastfeeding IS best, totally, but it can be frustrating for a lot of people. And I think it's good to be honest with moms about that. A lot expect it to be super easy and think something is wrong with them when it's not. And by the way, breastfeeding for 13 months is AWESOME and I totally commend you for putting up with all the frustration and sticking with it.
