One of the most popular features that new buyers look for in a home is hardwood floors. Though it’s true that there are many people looking for hardwood floors, this doesn’t leave them without faults, there are still pros and cons to having hardwood floors.

When it comes to hardwood floors, there is no lack of variety; from different makes of wood to different patterns and installations, there are many choices. You can even choose the exact stain you want for your hardwood floor if you come in contact with unfinished hardwood flooring planks, they’ll keep you from having to choose a pre-made color. As you decide on whether or not to get hardwood flooring, you must look at all the pros and cons that come with it.

Pros of Hardwood Floors
The look of hardwood floors is one of its biggest pros. Hardwood flooring is very beautiful and more attractive than carpet or tile, and almost every homeowner can agree with that. You can go with oak, cherry and even bamboo, when it comes to choosing the wood you have a variety of choices.

Matching furniture to hardwood floors is easier than carpet or tile since wood is neutral and goes with just about any type of furniture that you want for a room. While some carpets and tiles only match certain themes and styles, hardwood flooring allows you to redecorate your room’s style while still matching with the floor.

You also have the advantage of a low maintenance floor when it comes to cleaning. Sweeping the floor with a duster every few days or a simple vacuuming is all that you need to keep them clean. About once a month take a wood cleaner to the floor, this will aid in keeping the floor’s shine. Since hardwood floors don’t collect as much dirt and dust as carpets do, they are much better for people with allergies.

Cons of Hardwood Floors

You may find that that hardwood flooring is much colder than carpet if your hardwood floor is on the ground level of the home and your house is on a slab. This can be a real disadvantage to people that live in places where the winter months get really cold. You can trade in the beauty of the hardwood floor for a bit by placing rugs over it to work around this though.

You might want to think twice about your flooring if you have small children or babies if they are going to play on the hardwood floor. The hard flooring can be tough on crawling babies and babies learning to walk will fall quite a bit, so this is where having a soft carpet would help.
