Why You Need Pet Doors In Your Home

It’s not a luxury for some pet owners to have pet doors installed in their home, despite what some may think. It’s a very real need, especially for owners with troublesome pets. Imagine having to deal with your dog’s whining and uneasiness when it wants to get out of the house. If you have a yard it can play on when supervised, it might want to keep going there. If you have several dogs or cats, they are going to need to have a way in and out of your home.

Potty accidents – despite having a potty station set up for them, they’ll do just this

You know, it’s likely that cabin fever hits animals as acutely as it does people. Pets can feel it, too, and intensely at that. Pets could still be marking every other un-peed-upon area in your home, even if they have to do that repeatedly. Prepare to do a lot of cleaning up. It’s bad enough that one’s laundry basket can smell of sweat and all, but to add your pet’s pee scent that? That’s bad. If you keep books and other items on a low shelf, prepare to accept the fact that that will smell of pet pee, too. It gets worse – if your computer’s CPU is on the floor beside your desk, that too might get peed on.

Scratched furniture – if you have expensive ones, prepare to see them clawed up

Granted you won’t always know what your pet may do outdoors, there’s no telling the extent of what they could do indoors. So far, we’ve discussed the potty accidents segment. It’s bad enough that your personal stuff will be peed on, but they may become scratched up as well. Never mind if you’ve set up scratching posts near their pet bed. Pulled down, clawed out curtains, and an assortment of other woes – expect to see these all over.

When you get home, count the number of tumbled over and broken items

If cats can jump on your lap, they can jump on to higher places. They can reach high shelves and push off and break more items. If you regularly leave uncapped bottles or half eater food, you’re going to see them rummaged through and strewn all over when you get home. A book or six will be on the floor, too. Maybe a vase or several picture frames will be on the floor, not in one piece. Was that lampshade expensive – yes. Will it survive a bored cat? You’ll find out the hard way.

You need to let your pet have fun and be as free as it can be, by getting a pet door. You also avoid indoor potty accidents, scratched furniture, and tumbled over items. If you have a big house or a garden, that means your pets can have more space to round around in and have fun. For that, you might need several pet doors.
